Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree of English literature. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located which was based in Washington DC. In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Mitchell became the Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over time, including the tax reforms, budget reforms as well as the Iran Contra saga. She traveled frequently with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
